LOOKING AND DRAWING

Observational drawing around Leeds was a top activity. It gave me the chance to practice drawing in a limited amount of time. I found myself drawing the same things over and over again, though mainly from the same angles to try and improve upon the images. It would have been interesting to draw the same items but from different angles as it would change the whole layout of the image.

These crystals are my favourite of the pieces. It was such a challenge to capture the way the light shone of them, which prompted my use of purple as well as green in the image to emphasise the darkest areas of the subject. Working with more than one colour / media gave a lot more depth to he image and the colours give a representation of the crystals without it being completely true to form.

Below is a drawing of a crack between paving stones that was filled with dirt and leaves etc. It is one of the first drawings I did but I think it's effective as the contrast of red and black makes the 'unnoticed' thing the most noticeable part of the image. I really enjoyed using two different media and colours in this project as you don't really think of using media other than pencil when drawing from observation, so it was a good opportunity to create some more interesting looking images.
