We were feeling pretty productive at lunchtime - we made a mind map of our experiences and ideas.
Emily was really drawn to using purple and brown as the colours as purple suggests the royal aspects of the library in contrast with the brown boring/old bits of the place. I kept noticing the colours purple and brown around the library too - all the stands were purple and loads of people were wearing purple jackets. It was a little creepy.
We all liked the idea of including the teapot swamp so we tried to mix a more swampy yellow colour rather than brown - I think the colours we came up with are successful but I used a yellow and purple colour scheme in a previous brief so I'm a little worried I'll fall into a pit of always using those colours.
I made a tiny hot dog book so we could have a look at our ideas in action. The book would be about a man's adventure through the library swamp teapot. I felt a little like I was just bombarding my group with my ideas and I didn't want to overrule everyone so I kept checking with everyone to make sure they weren't just going along with what I said and not actually liking it. I am not accustomed to taking charge in a group so it was a weird experience. The main idea I liked was the book opening backwards so you read up through the pages rather than down or left to right.
The ideas we had were much more surreal than other people in the class - I think we all became a bit insecure about it. But in the end we got good feedback for going a bit wild with it - we were a bit too solid in our 'story' though & it was suggested we delve deeper into it.
Sketch of my original panel before we altered our ideas - though mine was pretty similar. Trying to keep aspects of the library - the arches and stairs evident in the imagery. |
