Vis Com: Greetings From: Ideas

The four ideas I had was teas and the places they come from, cities in middle earth, cities that smell and cities with giant things.

Because I sabotaged myself by not having a lot of work in time for the crit I've ended up only looking into the teas, cities that smell and middle earth as I thought these would have the most interesting outcomes.

Cities that smell:
A main challenge here was how to make smells visual. Mainly in roughs I've tried to portray this through waves/'smoke' radiating from the source of the smell of in the air - and also a characters reaction on the page. I initially was gonna focus this around cities that smell bad but then realised it could be cities that smell good, for example tokyo during the Cherry Blossom festival. If I continued with this I would probably choose two cities that smell bad and two that smell good.

For the Middle Earth theme I thought about a lot of ideas:

  • Produce from middle earth - Such as the rings, Lembas bread, Old Toby Pipe weed etc. I thought this might be a bit vague to people who are not as versed in middle earth produce.
  • Doorways of middle earth - Could be more recognisable than the first idea - Bilbo Baggins' circular door is quite iconic, the door to the Mines of Moria is also a well known door. Other doorways might be more obscure.
  • Circle - Many circular things in Middle earth - Door, Ring, Minas Tirith
  • Clothing - Armour with the white tree of Gondor, Elven cloaks etc

Because Lord of the Rings is something I know a lot about I feel like a Middle Earth theme is something I could fully invest myself into
